Vincent Brown is one of Australia’s best-trained artists. He studied at the Slade School, Grosvenor School and Central School of Arts and Crafts, all in London; as well as the Ruskin School, Oxford and Oxford Technical College. In Australia he lectured in Fine Arts at the University of Queensland, and was head of the art department at GAWR Grammar School in South Wales. Over the years from 1918 he has had successful exhibitions in Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne. His landscape and still-life paintings in the medium of watercolour and oils display strong European influences. The Queensland Art Gallery has held a survey of his work, "Vincent Brown, an early Queensland modernist 1991". He is represented in the British, Victoria and Albert Museums in London as well as the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the National Gallery of Victoria and the Queensland Art Gallery in Australia. |
