John Brack is considered to be an artist of rare excellence. This is due to his steady output of consistently good images. It is said that in over 40 years of painting Brack has not produced one uninteresting painting. This is quite an achievement for an artist who first pursued his interest at evening classes of the National Gallery of Victoria.
One of Brack’s very first paintings “The Barbers Shop” was purchased for the National Gallery of Victoria.
Brack’s work achieves purity – a purity of style – a purity of colour, line and shape.
In everything that he produces he tries to achieve a perfect synthesis of line, colour and tone. His surfaces of flat and long perspective lines create space.
Both RMIT, Monash University and the National Gallery of Australia have held retrospectives of his work.
He is represented in all state gallery collections.
