HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHARLES BLACKMAN
In celebration of this Australian’s life and art,
Art Galleries Schubert is presenting an exhibition of his works.
|
Born in Sydney on 12 August 1928, Charles Blackman is one of only a handful of Australian painters to have reached international acclaim. This exhibition demonstrates the development of Blackman’s powerful imagery over a period of five decades. Several works from his formative early years in the 1950’s are represented. These include “The Mews” and paintings from his famous “School Girl” series. There are also some fine pen and ink drawings from Blackman’s Parisian days during the ‘70’s – “Young Acrobat” circ. early ‘50’s, “Street Players” circ. ‘60’s and “Lovers” circ. 1982.
First time visitors to Art Galleries Schubert on the Gold Coast never fail to be astonished at the extraordinary number of works by artists firmly placed in Australian art history. Art Galleries Schubert’s current exhibition of works by Charles Blackman will be no exception.
This is again, a rare opportunity to view a body of work from such a renowned artist and to experience Charles Blackman’s mastery for interpreting the ‘unspoken’ where even the most disregarded moment is illuminated.
