The 2000 Josephine Ulrick Photography Prize

Conditions of Entry

1.   The prize is open to all residents of Australia.

2.   Entries must be photographic, still, and two-dimensional Entries must be archivally sound.

The Judges will be looking for excellence in techniques, creativity and originality of

photography to standards prescribed by the Administrator.

3.   The theme is portrait

4.   There is a limit, of two (2) only entries per person. The entry fee is $20 per entry and is not

refundable. Entries must have been completed since April 1999, be owned and created by

the artist and not have been previously exhibited or submitted to any other competitions,

prizes or similar.

5.   Entry forms and entry fees must be received by the Gallery by 5PM Friday 2nd June 2000.

6.   Finished entries must be delivered to the Gallery between Saturday 3 and Sunday 18 June

2000. Entries may be framed or unframed.  Framed entries must conform to the Framing

Requirements - stated below and must be ready to hang with D-rings attached 6cms from the

top of the frame.  Unframed works will be hung using pins, or similar, and by submitting

unframed work.  entrants agree to this  method of display.  Whilst all care is taken with

unframed work the Gallery will not be held responsible for any handling damage which may

occur- There is a size limit of 1m width x 2m height, which includes frame (and any

protuberances).

7.  The Gallery reserves the right to not display any work considered unsuitable or unsafe for

public, display.

8.  All works must be for sale and, with the exception of the acquired winner, will be subject to a 25%

     Gallery commission if sold.

9.  A pre-selection will be conducted on 19-20 June 2000 and the Judges will be looking for works which 

     fulfil the criteria set out in conditions 2,.3 & 6. The outcome of the pre-selection

will be posted on the Gallery's web site at http://www.tweed.nsw.gov.au

10. The exhibition of the artists' work. will be on display at the Tweed River Regional Art Gallery

from 5th July - 30th August 2000, Wed - Sun 10AM - 5PM. The judging will take place on Friday

7th July 2000 and the winner will be announced at the exhibition opening that evening after

6PM. The decision of the Judges in both the- pre-selection and final Judging 'is final and no

correspondence shall be entered into.

11. The Prize is acquisitive, with the winner receiving a cheque for $3000 from the Josephine

Ulrick and Win Schubert Foundation for the Arts, and the winning entry passing directly into

the ownership of the Tweed River Regional Art Gallery.

12.  Highly Commended Prizes may be awarded at the Judges discretion to a total value not

exceeding $1000.

13.  All entries including those not selected for exhibition, will be available for collection between

Monday 7th - Sunday 15th August 2000. All transport costs and arrangements to and from the

Gallery are the responsibility of the entrant. Insurance is the responsibility of the entrant at all

 times. The Gallery will take all care, but no responsibility.

14. The Entrant agrees that the Administrator may at its absolute discretion reproduce any entry

 for the purpose of publicity for the Josephine Ulrick Photography Prize and all public display

associated with ft.

.  15. The Administrator reserves the right to make the final decision in respect of any Issue relating

         to the organization and administration of the 2000 competition.

Framing Requirements

Framed size of entries, including any protuberances, must not exceed Width I metre

and Height 2 metres (as per entry condition number 6)

For safe transport and handling, we recommend entries be framed under Perspex,

not glass.

The Gallery hangs work from a picture rail with a continuous string that goes through

both D-rings and back to the picture rail. This is why we are specific in our request

to you to frame  accordingly.

 As per entry condition S, entries must be ready to hang with D-rings attached 6cm

from the tap of the frame.  D-rings can be purchased from hardware stores and

picture framers. Some examples of D-rings are pictured below for your reference:

 

Each entry must be clearly identified of the back by filling in and attaching the

information box provided with the entry form.

Frames must be strong and secure.  Works in flimsy or unsafe frames cannot be hung.

Don't forget entries (in finished state & ready for hanging) must at the Gallery

between Saturday 3th and Sunday 18th June 2000.

Packaging Requirements

Please remember when packaging your work for transport that we have to re-use

your packaging for the return of your work (unless of course your work is sold or you

are the winner).  Please pack your work in a manner which allows for easy

unpacking and repacking. Arrows or instructions, where necessary, are welcomed.

A reusable box can be easily made from large sheets of cardboard - often

obtainable free from electrical suppliers. This box could be lidded or could be made

to open on one and for the work to slide in and out

Please supply addressed return labels including your contact telephone number.

These car be adhesive labels or a sheet of paper to be taped on.

Don’t forget that you must arrange for collection of your work between Monday 7th

and Friday 13* August, if you wish to have your work posted to you COD from

Australia Post please send, with your work, a completed COD form available from

Australia Post outlet.
