The Josephine Ulrick Photography Prize -$5,000

Josephine Ulrick was born on 17th June 1952 and died 10th January 1997.

She crammed so much into her short life that many histories would need to be written to reveal the whole person.  She took a lively interest in nature, from the rain forests to the smallest detail in a leaf. Her great loves were art, literature and photography.

She was a writer and a poet and she filled notebooks with vignettes of the people she met and her experiences. Most of all, she loved people,- and was excited by the potential she saw in everyone. When she recognised talent she nurtured it, and those who knew her grew by the confidence she instilled in them.

By the force of her own personality, drive and enthusiasm she become director and curator of Art Galleries Schubert. She was a mentor to artists and in the direction she gave, buyers gained courage to trust their own instincts.

She will be remembered by those to whom she gave freely of her knowledge, her time and her passion. She believed in the future, and in the future there will be those who, although they never knew her will have cause to rejoice in her life and her spirit.
